We are almost over with the summer break and the second half of the season is sure to be exciting. In the leaderboard, Max Verstappen is running ahead and is speeding away from Leclerc and the gang. Anything can happen in motorsport so things may change quickly. Letโs look at the races so far. In the table below, each column represents each race of the season so far. This table has information from all race results in the season so far, all the way from race 1 to race 13.
Interestingly, only Hamilton has completed all races so far. Perez and Russell have been the most consistent, finishing all races under 5th place excluding DNFs. The table below shows average finish positions for each driver. These are averages so they may not be real values and may represent something that may have never happened. On average, Leclerc finishes around 3rd place, but he has never finished 3rd. Like I mentioned previously, Russell has been very consistent as reflected below with a standard deviation of 0.8. Kevin Magnussen on the other hand has had an inconsitent season so far finishing either in the top ten or bottom ten, explaining the double bump.
At the Podium
There have been seven drivers who have made it to the podium. Verstappen has the most with 10 podiums and Norris has one. Perez and Hamilton have been on the podium 6 times. However, the top place in the podium has been achieved only by drivers in Red Bull and Ferrari cars.
Standings
Vertappen seems to be running faster than the pack behind him. Only 22 points separate the 2nd and 6th places. Theoretically, these drivers are within one race away to maintain or achieve the 2nd place. It may take some catching up to get to Verstappen, which at this point of the season looking forward is possible.
Ferrari and Mercedes are in close contention and so are Alpine and Mclaren. This year Williams has had a difficult season and so has Aston Martin. Weโll have to keep a close eye on how this standings change as we move to towards the end of the season.
A Personal Note
This has been the first edition of this newsletter. Itโs been a lot of fun working on it. I always wanted to find a place to get clutter-less ad-free simple information about Formula 1 or any other sport. While currently this newsletter is free, and a portion of it will always will be, I plan on starting paid subscriptions in the future. Free subscribers will still get amazing newsletters, but I hope that paid editions will help me to make this newsletters more consistent, sustainable, and enjoyable. Iโm doing this at a personal expense of time while trying to keep a full-time job, taking care of a young family, and trying to get some sleep. So please consider sharing, subscribing, or supporting. Thank you!
